My Pirate Library, Philip Gosse. Published by Dulau and Company, London, 1926. First, limited edition, no. 139 of 300 copies, signed by Philip Gosse on the limitation page. 8vo up to 9½” tall. 75pp. with two illustrations by Claud Lovat Fraser. Red cloth boards with gilt spine titles; top edge gilt. Contents in fine condition with a small foxing mark to limitation page and one near end pages. Binding is tight and square; gilt remains bright. Boards have two lightened streaks and a few spots where there is some loss of coloring; they are otherwise fine with minimal edge rubbing.
This is a bibliographical catalogue of the author’s own collection relating to piracy. It includes an introduction by the author’s father, Sir Edmund Gosse. Dr Philip Gosse (1879-1959) was a physician who served in WW1, an author of natural history and history, and an eminent authority on pirate lore and literature. His writings on piracy include: The Pirates’ Who’s Who (1924), My Pirate Library (1926), and The History of Piracy (1932). Gosse’s collection of piracy works is now held at the National Royal Maritime Museum at Greenwich.
