Grey paper boards with sewn binding; pictorial pastedown front board; 6 full colour plates with black and white in text drawings; text printed in red and black. Light rubbing and soiling to boards; front board lightly bowed. Child’s penciled inscription to free endpaper, neatly repeated in black ink to versus of frontispiece; an occasional tiny soil mark; webbing is exposed along hinge between 2 pages about midway through the book although all pages firmly secured. Overall this lovely little collectible is in very good condition.
Author and illustrator Alfred Ernest Walter George Aris, (1882–1963) was also known by the pen names Robin A Hood and Dan Crow. In this delightful little book, he is writing and illustrating as Robin A. Hood. Aris was a contemporary and correspondent of Beatrix Potter, worked on more than 170 publications and additionally designed cigarette cards, postcards, toys and games. 003093 $60
