First Canadian Printing of the First Revised Edition of the authors first novel originally published in 1933. 203pp with an Introductory Note by Margerie Lowry, the author’s widow. Octavo, dark blue cloth boards, with gilt spine titles; top edge dark blue. Boards are in beautiful condition; binding firm and square, text block is clean without tears or folds. There is an inscription free blank endpaper; this page is cut at top to reveal book’s title on the page following. Bottom outer edge has a light band of toning not affecting pages. Unclipped jacket with original price of $4.00 to rear flap has edge rubbing edges and seams; one tiny chip top spine edge. Ultramarine is based on Lowry’s journal he kept on his first voyage to the Far East when he was 19. Lowry was never satisfied with Ultramarine, rewriting and revising yet refusing to republish it in his lifetime. George Woodcock, among other critics have insisted that a full understanding of Lowry and his work is not complete without a reading of Ultramarine.
