Rhymes of a Red Cross Man, Service, Robert W. Published by William Briggs, Toronto, 1916. 32mo – over 4″ – 5″ tall. 203 pp. Yapped bound soft tan suede; all edges gilt; gilt titles front and spine with black embossed border front and back. Dedicated to “The Memory of My Brother Lieutenant Albert Service Canadian Infantry Killed In Action, France, August, 1916. Toning to endpapers and half-title; former owner’s name neatly penned in light black ink to free endpaper; contents are otherwise in fine condition without marks, tears or folds; binding and pages are tight. Covers have a couple of tiny spots; gilt is partially rubbed to a few letters front cover; tiny chip to spine at top edge and tiny split to tail edge. A lovely, collectible copy.

Robert William Service (1874–1958) was a Scottish born poet and writer whose poetry and verse is still known and celebrated world-wide. He wrote mostly poems of the west, or of the Alaskan Gold Rush days. He was an ambulance driver during WWI.
