In February 1992, after five years, and 1,500 draft pages, Chabon abandoned or, as he puts it, “wrecked” his writing of Fountain City. Within seven months, he wrote The Wonder Boys a highly acclaimed novel about a washed-up writer slash professor with a weed habit and, a book he cannot finish. In 2010, Chabon was invited to include Fountain City in McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, Issue 36 from which this booklet originates.
Michael Chabon is a prolific American novelist, screenwriter, columnist and short story writer. He has received several awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
