Limited, 1904, Toronto. 8vo up to 9½” tall., 372pp., titles bordered in floral green pattern; 15 black and white illustration by Robert Anning Bell. Dark green cloth boards with gilt illustrated front and spine, top edge gilt, sewn signatures. Contents are clean and free of markings with fold and small tear to rear free blank endpaper; hinges lightly cracked and weakened; loss of cloth to tail and head of spine, rubbing to corners. In very good condition.

Tales from Shakespeare is an English children’s book written by the siblings Charles and Mary Lamb in 1807, intended “for the use of young persons” while retaining as much Shakespearean language as possible. Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies.

Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a Scottish writer and scholar who edited and published hundreds of fairy tales from around the world in his famous colour fairy book series (The Blue Fairy Book, The Pink Fairy Book, etc.).

Robert Anning Bell (1863-1933) was a British painter, sculptor, stained glass designer, illustrator, and teacher.
