Prize inscription dated 1906 to pastedown. 8vo up to 9½” tall., 415pp. with six colour illustrated plates. Blue cloth-covered boards with colour illustrated front and spine, gilt titles, top edge gilt. Front inner hinge partially cracked, occasional foxing spots and light toning to text block. Boards have edge rubbing and marks to outer rear board. Plates are all present and in fine condition. A tale of adventures at sea, slavery, capture and battle.
John Finnemore. John Finnemore (1863-1915) was a British school teacher and writer of fictional novels and history and geography texts. He is best remembered for his books about Teddy Lester and his friends at Slapton, a fictitious English public school. Finnemore was also a writer of early Boy Scout fiction.
