Francisco Diaz de Leon was one of the most influential modern artists (b. Mexico, 1897-1975) in 20th century Mexico. One of the leaders in the break from academic art, he co-founded the Open Air Schools (Escuelas de Pintura de Aire Libre), Circulo de Artistas Independientes, 30-30!, Sindicato de Pintores, Escultores y Grabadores Revolucionarios de México.
