The Romance of the Alaska Highway, Godsell, Philip H. Published by Ryerson Press, Toronto, 1944. First Edition. 8vo up to 9½” tall. xv + 235 pages including map and 12 black and white photographic plates.  Navy cloth boards with gilt spine titles.  Tiny hand drawn ink star tail edge of pastedown and otherwise volume is in beautiful condition inside and out.

Philip Henry Godsell, (1889-1961) was an Inspecting Officer for the Hudson’s Bay Company and a member of the exclusive Explorers Club of New York. He was a prolific writer, and he produced many books, short stories, radio broadcasts and articles, predominantly about his experiences as a fur trader, his Arctic travels and of Indians, Inuit, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and pioneering.  The Romance of the Alaska Highway is a narrative of the building of the Alaskan-Canadian Highway in the 1940’s.  003029 $40
