Toulouse-Lautrec, Mack Gerstle. Published by Knopf, NY, 1953. Blue boards with stamped yellow monogram front board, yellow spine titles. 371 pages plus 24 index pages and a section of black and white reproductions of Lautrec’s work.  Signed name in green ink to free endpaper; text block is otherwise fine with a light toning to pages. Light rubbing and bumping to board corners. Dustjacket has chips and closed tears a few of which have been taped from the inside; despite flaws it views well.

Declared as “the first complete biography in English ” of the renowned French painter Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) …”whose short but intensely active life is portrayed against a colorful gay nineties background of dancehalls, brothels, cafes-concerts, theatres, circuses, and racecourses.  002436        $20
